    Nine days, four kinds of weather and one puncture. The workshop lights are on. The odometer says 2,140 more than it did.

Not every journey
needs a destination.

  1. Fuel

    Full tank at the Stonegate pump. 14 litres, 06:00.

  2. Distance

    Out past the ring road. The numbers start to mean something.

  3. Road

    The highway gives up and the ghat begins. Third gear, mostly.

  4. Rest stop

    Chai at the top of the pass. Engine ticking, nobody in a hurry.

  5. Weather

    Cloud comes up the valley. Visors down, slower now.

  6. Landscape

    Down the other side into evening. The light goes copper.
